Think about it. When hurled, the spear-head …
- Takes the full weight of the impact,
- Is first on the scene,
- May get bent up or even shatter in the process,
- Carries the full weight of those who are to follow,
- Penetrates the deepest into the target subject, and (here’s the honor)
- Opens the way for all of them.
Consequently, it tends to get the most attention from it’s maker. It gets the most
- Sharpening, and
You might call it discipline. It’s tough and not very pleasant. Yes, a mark of acceptance and honor as children by the Smith involved, but just no fun at all while happening.
But a thousand years from now, the shaft will likely be gone while that same spearhead may well be remembered in picture books and histories, reproductions and museum exhibits.
Our Smith is creating us and preparing us for long term use! Yee-Haw! Ride the spear!
